Denison is a city of 24,479 as of the 2020 census, up 7.9% over the previous decade. It borders Sherman to its south - the two city centers are eleven miles apart - and together they form the Sherman-Denison metropolitan statistical area. Major employers include Texoma Medical Center, Ruiz Foods, Caterpillar, Cigna, Grayson College, and Spectrum Brands.

Four highways carry Denison traffic: US 75, the Katy Memorial Expressway; US 69; State Highway 91, the Texoma Parkway, which is the main commercial strip connecting Denison to Sherman and running north to the lake; and Spur 503, the Eisenhower Parkway. Denison Dam, five miles north of town, forms Lake Texoma - the third-largest lake in Texas and the self-declared Striped Bass Capital of the World, with Eisenhower State Park on its shores. The Eisenhower Birthplace State Historic Site downtown brings still more visitor traffic through the city.

On top of that, TxDOT's US 75 Project reaches Denison directly. The segment from FM 1417 to FM 120 covers 12.7 miles and includes improvements to the US 82 interchange, and frontage roads through Sherman and Denison are being converted from two-way to one-way operation. Nightly lane closures on the US 75 main lanes have been routine through 2026. Construction zones mean loose aggregate and heavy trucks, and that means rock chips.
